Finally, Judge Jackson

On February 25, 2022, President Biden kept his promise and nominated a black woman to the Supreme Court of the United States. As a law firm, founded and managed by a black woman, we are elated.

Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson is a Miami born, Harvard University and Harvard Law educated, former Law Clerk of Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer, DC Court of Appeals sitting, US District Court Judge, Wife to Patrick and Mother of two daughters. Judge Jackson is every one of us. Every black and brown woman who has strived to be and become. Every woman and overcomer of hurdles, obstacles to rise, shine and achieve.

Sitting on the United States Supreme Court through the years, there is and has been Justice Sandra Day O’Connor (1981), The Notorious RBG- Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg (1993), our first Hispanic and Latina, Justice Sonia Sotomayor (1998). Now, we have the nomination of a Black woman, Judge Ketanji Jackson in 2022. We know and expect her road to confirmation to be rocky. Naysayers have already begun their shenanigans even before she was named as Biden’s nominee. Twitter is on fire these days with talk of the demand of LSAT scores, talk of the nomination as radical and a product of dark money, her background as a public defender insinuating that she would be soft on crime. The fight is expected. Judge Jackson is every woman of color on the front lines of their lives. Fighting for what she has worked hard to achieve. Her rightful seat at the table. And, in this case, seat on the highest court of the land.

We believe that Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson has been unknowingly, preparing for this moment for years upon years. We know that she is more than ready. We also know that her representation on the Supreme Court of the United States is well past due and necessary in order for the Court to fully address every issue before it. Every Black woman within and outside of the legal arena is counting on this process, we are rooting for Judge Jackson. As Dr. Maya Angelou once said,

“I come as one, but I stand as 10,000.”

Maya Angelou

Judge Brown has thousands, if not millions, of women standing with her in this very moment.

Women’s History Month is off to a fantastic start. Actually, we are just getting started.

Until next time…
